This short video tells the story of Madina Nakanjako. Madina, a Ugandan, is dealing with an issue many women deal with: her husband is HIV positive, she is negative and he does not want to use a condom. Power imbalances in relationships can affect the ability of women to control or negotiate the terms of sexual relations and condom use. Women are also more biologically vulnerable to HIV than men. Poverty and reliance on men for economic support limit women’s power to protect themselves. As part of an integrated prevention and treatment strategy, an AIDS vaccine holds the potential to turn the tide on this devastating pandemic.
